DPM is a component of diesel exhaust made of ultrafine carbonaceous particles carrying PAHs, linked to lung cancer and other health impacts. WA mining operations now have a workplace exposure standard for DPM of 0.1 mg/m³ (as elemental carbon). We design monitoring and control programs that meet this standard in underground and enclosed environments.
• Our DPM monitoring service measures elemental carbon (EC) or total carbon (TC) using personal sampling pumps.
• Results are compared to guidance values; for example, the National Exposure Standard for DPM in underground mining is 0.1 mg/m³ EC.
• Personal EC sampling in breathing zones using recognised methods.
• Ventilation assessments and optimisation, traffic management, maintenance practices and low‑sulphur fuels.
• RPE programs and health monitoring where residual risk remains.
Achieving compliance with exposure standards safeguards workers and protects them from the acute and chronic health effects of DPM, inspiring a culture of safety and well-being.
EC results vs the WA mining standard, ventilation calculations, and a stepwise control plan aligned with regulator guidance.
